Homes for New Jersey to Report on State of Affordable Housing at Governor's Housing Conference Reception
September 25, 6:30PM, Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center, Pearl Ballroom

Trenton, N.J. - Homes for New Jersey will host a reception for its members and conference attendees at the Governor's Conference on Housing, Tuesday, September 25, 6:30-8:00PM, at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center, Pearl Ballroom. Homes for New Jersey Steering Committee Members will comment on the state of affordable housing in New Jersey, with remarks from:

  • The New Jersey Apartment Association
  • Apostle's House and the New Jersey Alliance to End Homelessness
  • K. Hovnanian Homes
  • La Casa de Don Pedro

In addition, Homes for New Jersey Co-Chairs, Bruce Davidson and Tim Touhey, will discuss the campaign's priorities for the future, and will introduce the coalition's new Executive Director, Alison Badgett.

"The Governor's annual Conference on Housing and Community Development is an important time to take stock of our progress," says Alison Badgett. "Though our members represent a diversity of perspectives-from those who serve the homeless, to large real estate developers-they all agree that we need a plan to address New Jersey's affordable housing crisis, and are committed to working in partnership to move an effective housing agenda forward."

Homes for New Jersey was founded in 2005 as a coalition of 270 prominent New Jersey builders, bankers, religious organizations, real estate companies, advocacy groups and service providers, who recognized the state's lack of affordable housing as a preeminent threat to New Jersey's future. Out of this concern, the coalition developed a detailed plan for housing reform, and made affordable housing a key issue in that year's gubernatorial campaign. Then candidate, Jon Corzine, accepted the coalition's challenge and committed to producing or preserving 100,000 units of affordable housing within 10 years.
